What is your teaching style?

Students in my classes are partners in learning where they are able to shape and create their own learning experiences in collaboration with me. My classes feature frequent small and large group discussions, real-life examples, and community connections.

特别是, students have ample experiential community-based learning opportunities through solving community partner’s problems, creating materials for public-health education, and service-learning experiences.

I strive to create a trauma-informed classroom environment where every student can thrive. I seek to remove high-stakes assignments by scaffolding and providing opportunities for students to earn their grades through demonstrating learning in multiple ways.

Why do you do what you do?

公共卫生 is a field where we can improve the quality of life of others and reduce human suffering. 作为一个 参与的威尼斯游戏大厅, I am part of improving communities through teaching, research, and service. My research is applied and designed to help improve the health of communities while my engagement with the community supports evaluation efforts, program development, and having meaningful dialogue and deliberation around the challenging problems that face us today.

Before entering the public health field, I worked in Student Affairs and so I am passionate about setting up students to be the most successful versions of themselves. Supporting students through graduation and into their careers or postgraduate studies is the core of my work at Carroll University.
